Meet Naya

With over 15 years of dance training, Naya Hutchinson has focused her professional career in modern dance, contemporary dance and ballet, showcasing her talents in appearances ranging from benefit concerts to special performances at The Ailey School.

 

Naya Hutchinson is originally from Upper Marlboro, MD and started her formal dance training at the age of five with the liturgical dance company Spirit Wings, founded and directed by Sandy Mitchell. Naya’s most recent dance training was as a student at The Ailey School, where she joined the School through the Fordham University BFA Program.

 

While at The Ailey School, Naya was the 2020 recipient of the Denise Jefferson Memorial Scholarship, a prestigious dance merit-based award honoring the late Ailey School Director. At The Ailey School, Naya performed works by Alvin Ailey, Becky Brown, Frederick Earl Mosley, Yoshito Sakuraba and Anna Sokolow.

 

Prior to joining the world-renowned Ailey School in 2017, Naya trained at CityDance Conservatory at Strathmore and The Washington Ballet School. At the Washington Ballet School, she received training from Septime Weber and Lila Seber. Continuing her professional dance training at CityDance Conservatory at Strathmore in Bethesda, MD

under the direction of Lorraine Spiegler, she performed works by Andrea Miller, Caroline Rocher, Robert J. Priore, Roni Koresh, and Therese Gahl.

She has attended summer intensives with Alonzo King LINES Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Dance Theatre of Harlem and Earl Mosley Institute of the Arts. She was also granted the opportunity to dance in the 2019 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade where she performed an excerpt of Mr. Ailey’s 'Revelations', specifically the 'Yellow Section'.

In May 2021, she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance through The Ailey School/Fordham University program, and a second Bachelor of Arts in African-American Studies from Fordham University.  In May 2022, she will receive a Master of Arts in Public Media degree from Fordham University.


With over 3k social media followers and 80K YouTube views, Naya’s influence spans platforms and garners consistent engagement.
